2024 Becomes First Calendar Year on Record to Exceed 1.5°C of Global Warming

Multiple independent scientific agencies — NASA, NOAA, Copernicus, WMO, and Berkeley Earth — each confirmed that 2024 was the hottest year in the observational record, with the global average temperature anomaly landing between 1.46°C and 1.60°C above the 1850–1900 pre-industrial baseline. The WMO's consolidated six-dataset analysis placed the figure at ~1.55°C. This marks the first calendar year to breach the 1.5°C threshold — a benchmark long cited in climate science and embedded in the Paris Agreement.
