Aircraft Order Backlog Splits 10.2 to 12 Years of Production Across Manufacturer and Industry Trackers

Airbus and Boeing's own delivery-target math puts their backlogs at 10.6 and 10.2 years of production respectively as of June 2026, while IATA's industry-wide current-build-rate calculation puts the combined backlog at nearly 12 years, with the backlog-to-active-fleet ratio near 60% versus a historical 30-40%. The gap traces to methodology: manufacturer delivery-target math versus industry current-build-rate math, not a disagreement about the underlying order count.
