Global Battery Manufacturing Capacity for 2025 Splits 2.5 to 7.9 Terawatt-Hours Depending on Definition
Four independent battery-industry trackers each published a 2025 global lithium-ion manufacturing capacity figure, and the numbers span a factor of more than three: IDTechEx's narrower production-capacity read puts it at just over 2.5 TWh, the IEA's nameplate-capacity count lands above 4 TWh, Benchmark Mineral Intelligence's gigafactory-capacity tracker reaches 4.8 TWh, and BloombergNEF's announced/under-construction pipeline figure hits 7.9 TWh. The gap traces to methodology, not disagreement about facts: each source is measuring a different stage of the build-out, from operating lines to paper commitments. All four agree the industry is running well ahead of demand, which every tracker places near 1.6 TWh for the year.
