Global Battery Storage Additions Hit a Record in 2025 -- Trackers Split Between 106 and 112 GW
Global battery energy storage additions crossed 100 GW in a single year for the first time in 2025, up from roughly 70-75 GW in 2024. Independent trackers agree it was a record year but not by how much: Wood Mackenzie counts 106 GW added, the IEA reports 108 GW, and BloombergNEF puts the figure at 112 GW (307 GWh) -- while Rho Motion/Benchmark Mineral Intelligence separately measured 315 GWh installed, about 50% growth on 2024 in energy terms. China accounted for roughly 54-60% of global additions depending on the tracker.
