Global Semiconductor Revenue for 2025 Splits $697B to $842.8B Across Major Industry Trackers
Five widely-cited trackers each published a full-year 2025 global semiconductor revenue figure, and the numbers do not converge: Deloitte's pre-year forecast put it at $697B while IDC's later tally reached $842.8B, a $145.8B gap on the same underlying claim. WSTS ($795.6B) and Gartner ($793B) -- the two latest, both post-year actuals -- agree within 0.3%, while the two earliest forecasts, filed before 2025's AI-driven chip demand fully materialized, undershot the eventual actuals by roughly 12-17%. The spread says less about the semiconductor industry's health, which is unambiguously up sharply, than about how far 'forecast' still sits from 'actual' in a market moving this fast.
Findings
- Deloitte's November 2024 outlook forecast $697B for 2025; MarketsandMarkets's February 2025 forecast put it at $707B -- both released before 2025's AI-driven semiconductor demand fully materialized.
- WSTS's March 2026 full-year release reported $795.6B (+26.2% YoY) and Gartner's January 2026 preliminary results reported $793B (+21% YoY) -- the two closest trackers, and the only two measuring finalized actuals after the year closed.
- IDC's figure of $842.8B is the highest of the five, sitting $145.8B (about 21%) above Deloitte's original forecast and $47B above the WSTS/Gartner actuals.
- Across all five: pre-year forecasts clustered near $700B while post-year actuals clustered near $793-843B -- a systematic undershoot of AI-driven chip demand, not scattered noise.
