Energy: Five sources confirm renewables crossed 24% of U.S. electricity generation in 2024
For the first time, renewable energy sources — wind, solar, hydro, biomass, and geothermal — collectively generated approximately 24% of total U.S. electricity in 2024, up from 23.2% in 2023. Wind was the largest renewable contributor at 10.3%, while solar grew 27% year-over-year to reach 6.9%. Wind and solar together overtook coal for the first time in 2024.
